Nathan Crowley 2.0

Nathan Crowley designed train for Wicked

AS: Author Joanna Maciejewska said, I want AI to do my laundry and dishes so that I can do art and writing, not for AI to do my art and writing so that I can do laundry and dishes.
NC: Well, the problem is, you do something mundane like washing the dishes and you get creative ideas! Your brain is resting! Washing the dishes can be really helpful!

AS: Even when doing research, I’ve heard designers say not to just use Google searches, but instead to go out to art galleries and find other inspirations.
NC: Everything will all start looking the same if we don’t. It’s about seeing and looking at the world around us and finding inspiration everywhere and in every shape and form. I have great optimism and faith through all these sea changes. AI is probably the biggest sea change that we’ve faced. Photoshop arrived, and then 3D arrived and everyone told us that would be the only way we were going to do things, but it’s not. Obviously audiences want to see new things and we don’t always get the design time or the build time to show them that and maybe this’ll allow us to get further into interesting-looking places. I have high hopes and optimism these technologies will help us make better and more interesting-looking films.
